Asian Amateur Championship Trophy unveiled
Standing 40cm tall and weighing more than 6 kilograms, the newly-commissioned Asian Amateur Championship Trophy has been unveiled ahead of this year’s inaugural event. Crafted in gilded solid silver and skillfully sculpted to reflect the Championship’s emblem, it spirals from a base of marble enshrouded in gold into a golf ball which features the outline of the Asia-Pacific region.
Engravings of flowering bamboo plants, one of the region’s many iconic symbols, adorn the outermost of four curling, converging strips that create a fluid transition from base to ball. Each strip represents one of the Championship’s founding partners; organisations which have come together as one to turn an exciting concept into a landmark event that will become one of the premier global championships in amateur golf.
The winner of the 2009 Asian Amateur Championship will see their name engraved first onto this beautiful and unique trophy. What is more, it will mark his first step into a year of incredible golfing opportunities. The 2009 Champion will be invited to compete at next April’s Masters Tournament at Augusta National and, along with the runner-up, will receive a place at Open Championship International Final Qualifying in either Asia or Australasia.
The Asian Amateur Championship will be held at Mission Hills Golf Club in China’s Guangdong province on 29 October – 1 November 2009.
