Mission Hills’ World Cup Course to stage inaugural Championship
120 amateur golfers from across the national golf associations affiliated to the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation will arrive in the city of Shenzhen to compete on the World Cup Course, a layout designed by past Open and Masters champion, Jack Nicklaus.
Dr David Chu, Chairman of Mission Hills, joined representatives of the founding partners in launching the new tournament which will reward the winner with a place in the Masters and in International Final Qualifying for The Open Championship.
“We’re proud to partner the APGC, The R&A and the Masters in building on the esteemed tradition of amateur involvement in Major championships whilst continuing Mission Hills’ role in growing the game both throughout the region and globally,” commented Chu.
Established in 1992 and host to the 1995 World Cup of Golf Final, the first international golf tournament to be held in China, Mission Hills is located near the town of Guanlan, just outside Shenzhen in China’s Guangdong province. Officially accredited with being the world’s largest golf facility, it has hosted the Omega Mission Hills World Cup since 2007 and now has eleven championship courses designed by some of the most recognisable names in golf.
