Japan's Kenta Konishi strikes first shot of 2010 Asian Amateur Championship
Japan’s Kenta Konishi, the reigning Junior Open Champion, got the 2010 Asian Amateur Championship underway at 7.00am this morning with an arrow-straight drive down the first fairway of the West Course at Kasumigaseki Country Club. Moments afterwards, Chinese Taipei’s Kao Teng hit an equally good shot from the 10th tee to commence play on the second nine.
40 groups containing a total of 118 players representing 27 Asia Pacific Golf Confederation member nations will commence their challenges between 7.00am and 12.21pm today. Each of those players tees-off in the knowledge that a Major Championship opportunity is just 72 holes away.
Play is expected to conclude shortly after 5.00pm this evening. After 36 holes, a half-way cut will be made, with 60 players plus ties advancing to the weekend.
The West Course at Kasumigaseki measures 7,068 yards (6,463 metres) and plays to a par of 71. The outward nine begins with a 408-yard par four, while the inward half starts with a 542-yard par five.

The 2010 Asian Amateur Championship is taking place from 7 – 10 October at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kawagoe City, one hour north west of Tokyo in Saitama Prefecture.
